OrthoPets Okanagan

Veterinary orthotics & prosthetics (V-OP) is a new & developing field in veterinary medicine. Dr. Edwards has advanced training in the use of orthotics and how to integrate a rehabilitation plan with your pet to improve the success of using a device appropriately. After a thorough musculoskeletal evaluation of your pet, a fiber glass impression of your pet’s affected limb will be made. OrthoPets can then fabricate a custom designed device to assist your pet with recovering from an injury or adapt to a specific medical condition. The primary therapeutic goals with a V-OP device is to reduce pain, provide support, & improve your pet’s quality of life by restoring mobility.

Prosthetics

Prosthetics replace a missing part or lengthen a limb which serves to promote normal movement and improve long-term outcomes. Prosthetic candidates are often pets with congenital limb anomalies and can be considered as part of planing process with a limb sparring amputation.

Orthotics

Orthotics may be utilized to protect or prevent injury, immobilize or support a body part, correct a deformity, and/or assist with function. Cases that commonly benefit from an orthotic include Achilles tendon injuries and carpal hyperextension conditions.

Cruciate Orthotics

Surgery is not always an option for all dogs that have been diagnosed with cruciate disease. Rehabilitation, together with the application of an appropriate stifle orthotic (brace), can help your pet regain comfort & function.
